Kidney Navigator help and user guide

Short answers for the Kidney Navigator app. Everything you enter stays on your device unless you choose otherwise.

Start here

Open kidneynav.com/app in your phone or computer browser. There is nothing to download. To keep it on your phone, use your browser's “Add to Home Screen” option.

The six tabs along the bottom are Home, Log, Scan, Health, People and More.

By default, what you enter is saved only in this browser on this device. No account is needed.

Quick start

1. Open Log. Add fluids (for example +8 oz), weight and blood pressure. “Undo last” removes your most recent fluid entry.

2. Open Health. Add a lab result (name, value, date) or a medication.

3. Open More. Set an app PIN, download a copy of your data, and make a summary for your care team.

Free and Premium

Every new account gets a 14-day free trial of everything. After the trial, the Free plan keeps the emergency card and dialysis reminder, care team, appointments, hospital stays and questions, the free tools, PIN lock, both languages and downloading a copy. The Care scanner, new tracker entries, the caregiver and doctor links, the doctor summary and encrypted sync are part of Premium ($4.99 a month or $39.99 a year). Premium is not on sale yet, so today every feature is free and nothing is charged.

Care scanner

Tap Scan on Home or in the bottom bar (it opens “Care scanner” in More), then pick a photo or paste text from a lab report or medication label. Check every field it fills in against the original before you save. The scanner can make mistakes. If a photo will not read, type the values in by hand.

Summary for your doctor

In More, under “Summary for your doctor”, tap “Open summary”, choose 7, 30, 90, 180 or 365 days, then “Print or save as PDF”. Bring it to your visit or send it to your clinic.

Caregiver link

In More, under “Share with a caregiver”, “Create link” makes a link for someone you trust. The information is carried in the link itself. It is a convenience, not a lock, so share it only with people you trust and not in public places.

Protect and back up your data

Set a PIN (More, “App lock”) to encrypt your entries on this device. If you forget the PIN, we cannot recover it.

Download a copy (More) saves a file you can keep. Downloaded copies are not encrypted, so store them somewhere private. Use “Restore from a copy” to load one back.

Erase this device removes your entries from this browser. Download a copy first if you want to keep them.

Optional encrypted sync is off unless you turn it on in More. If you do, supported records are encrypted on your device before a copy is sent, and photos, PDFs and raw scans are never synced.

Troubleshooting

My entries disappeared. They live in one browser on one device. A different browser, private mode, or cleared site data starts fresh. Restore from a copy if you have one.

“Saving is turned off in this browser.” You may be in private mode. Open the app in a normal window.

The scanner filled in the wrong number. Correct it before saving, or type the value in by hand.

Spanish. Use the language menu at the top of the app.
